How We Authenticate.
Every bag you see on Inherited has passed a rigorous authentication process before it was ever photographed, listed, or shipped. We don't list first and verify later. Authentication is the first step — not an afterthought.
We partner with Legit Grails, a leading AI-powered authentication platform, to verify every single piece. Combined with our own expert examination, every bag that leaves us comes with a certificate of authenticity included in your order.
What we check.
Every piece is examined across six key areas:
1. Date codes & serial numbers We cross-reference internal date codes and serial numbers against the house's production records. For Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, and other major houses, these codes are specific to year, factory, and production run.
2. Hardware quality & markings Authentic luxury hardware is weighty, precisely stamped, and consistent. We examine all closures, zippers, feet, and clasps — checking stamping depth, weight, and finish against genuine references.
3. Stitching & construction Luxury houses maintain precise stitch counts and consistent thread colours. We examine thread weight, stitch consistency, and seam alignment. Inconsistencies here are often the clearest tell.
4. Material authentication Canvas patterns, leather grain, pony hair, nylon — we examine materiality against known genuine examples. Pattern alignment, texture, and ageing consistency are all assessed.
5. Interior lining & labels Lining materials, font consistency on interior stamps, care labels, and interior hardware are all examined. Counterfeits frequently fail here.
6. Provenance & sourcing We source primarily through established networks in Japan, where pre-loved luxury is a deeply respected market with high standards. Provenance doesn't guarantee authenticity — but it matters.
